Lewis Lake offers one of Yellowstone National Park's most distinctive stillwater fly-fishing experiences. Its gin-clear water holds both brown trout and lake trout, with seasonal opportunities ranging from productive ice-off fishing for lake trout to summer dry flies and large fall browns.
Ice-Off, Brown Drakes & Fall Brown Trout
Each part of the season offers something different. Shortly after ice-off, lake trout move into accessible water, creating some of the year's best opportunities to catch numbers of fish. During summer, the Brown Drake hatch can bring trout to the surface and produce exciting dry-fly fishing. In fall, mature brown trout move toward the inlet, giving anglers the opportunity to target fish in the 20-24 inch class when conditions align.
